Putin's Party emerges victorious

Russia held parliamentary election on december2 2007 that further strengthened President Putin’s grip on power. The Putin led United Russia which controlled two thirds of the previous House swept the elections again. Out of the other 10 parties in the field not more than 4 succeeded in leaving any considerable impact in the 450 member State Duma.


It was the first election after the electoral law was modified to eliminate constituency seats raising the threshold for gaining seats from 5% to 7%.Mr.Putin energized the otherwise uninspiring campaign by agreeing to lead the electoral list of united Russia. With his approval rating holding steady at 80% mr.putin has led more popularity to united Russia which is largely seen as a party of bureaucrats. mr.putin who is barred by the constitution from seeking a third consecutive term in the office in the march 2 ,2008 presidential election said united Russia must convincingly win the parliamentary poll in order to ensure that his plans do not go down the drain after he steps down next year.

The CM(chief minister) of UP state in India is now a very powerful leader.Her's is story of what hardwork can do.She is the leader of the BSP (Bahujan Samajwadi Party) which was nurtured by the Late Kanshi Ram.Mayawati used to be a teacher in delhi who was preparing for IAS(Indian Administrative Services) a much coveted post still in India until she met her future guru(teacher) Kanshi Ram who found that she can be much more than just a DM material.His famous line were that "why are you preparing to becoming a DM(District Magistrate) when you can be the CM?".


From then there was no looking back.She plunged herself into the world of politics of UP(Uttar Pradesh).The main political base of BSP is the Dalit votebank.Dalits are the lower caste people who are backward.She found them to be the votebank and also started widely campaigning for the elections.Her real sucess came in the last year's election when her party became the majority party after a gap of almost 15 years because before that there was only the coalition governments.The people have given har a verdict.
But Mayawati is also sorrounded in controversies wether they relate to her various corruption charges or be it the wealth she has amassed over the years.Now she wants to replicate the model of UP in whole of India.She's has set her eyes on the next Lok sabha elections in which she could be seen doing the role of kingmaker.Her eyes are on the 80 Lok Sabha seats that lie in Up.They are the largest seats in whole India.She has started campaigning widely for the elections in whole of India.She does'nt want to take any chances.
People also know Mayawati for her autocratic style.She is a one women party who has not allowed the birth of second rung leaders to take place.She is the face of BSP everywhere.Her recent rally in the state of Maharashtra was well attented by the people.Mayawati knows that in order to win she needs to take the Upper castes with her thats why she has the most trusted aide Satish Mishra who is the Brahmin face of BSP.In order to woo the Muslim votebank she has Naseemuddin as her second aide who represents the Muslim face.She has said that she wants all sections of the society to come together.Now it seems to be seen who will be the gainer in the next General Elections.But it is giving Congress Party sleepless nights as it see's it's votebank slipping away.But you can never underestimate the party leader of Congress Sonia Gandhi because she plays it to the last.

PAKISTAN ELECTIONS:A HUNG ASSEMBLY

With the just concluded elections in Pakistan one thing hag become clear that the opposition to President Musharraf is set to increase.It can also see the begining of a new era in Pakistan.
The elections have been given a stamp of approval by John Kerry,a former Presidential candidate.The Nawaz sharif party has said it will fulfill all it's promises and also that let us now get rid of the dictator reffering to the President.Mr.Zardari of PPP has said that his endeavour will be to form a national consensus government taking all the parties together.The party PPP is in a position to form a government in the Sindh province of Pakistan.

TOTAL SEATS ARE 272
The slain pakistan Benazir Bhutto's party PPP has emerged as the single largest party but well beyond the majority.It will now have to look for allies to form the government.The PML(N) led by Nawaz Sharif seems to be the ally the PPP would be looking for.The war between Musharraf and Nawz is well known.He has already called to reinstate the former lawyers and judges who had been removed during the recent Emergency.But it looks to be seem whom the US will support/

According to an NGO 42% voting took place whereas according to some just 33% took place.But the crtediblity has been estableshed by the US about the elections.According to them the elections were genuine and is a step towards Democracy.
Meanwhile the list of high profile losers is indeed very with Mr. Kasuri the former foreign minister who always supported the peace process with India loosing out.Some people are saying this as the verdict against President Musharraf whose popularity has plunged.
Now it looks to be seen who who will lead Pakistan as the new PM.But the new government be a surely coalition government much like it's Indian counterparts.

US Elections: WHO WILL WIN???

Well this election will be going to be the most watched after U.S. Presedential Election of all times.But the real question circulating in the power circles is who is going to be the nominee from the democrats side?


From the republican side John McCain as has been almost been confirmed barring the fight Huckabee is putting.We are seeing three completely different persons in this most watched elections.On one side is the rebublican Jihn McCain who is a Vietnam war veteran and on the other is side is Hillary Clinton,the ex-first kady and third but not the least is Barack Obhama.The central issue which is being projected is the ill concieved war in Iraq by President George W.Bush.With the public approval rating at an all time low and the crediblity of the Republican party is almost in tatters.

The real tussle is goin b/w Hillary and Obhama for the nomination from the Democratic side.Hillary theme is that she "has the experience at that level whereas Obhama is inexperienced".While Obhama has a wider appeal theme of "let's change".Both are having certain advantages and disadvantages.While Hillary surely has experience some people doubt that her husban the former President Bill Clinton will have the real powers.Also Hillary was the foremost one to support that action should be taken against Iraq for WMD which later turned out be just nothing.So people do question her experience at international level.After the Super Tuesday she was almost wiped out but don't count her as out.She still has the crucial Super Delegate votes.Also people are sceptic over her becoming the first women US president.

Now tlking of Obhama he's seems to be surely leading over Hillary more so after the Super Tuesday.His popularity has cut across the society not just the blacks.He seems to be also popular among the women voters.He's has not indulged in the mud slinging campghain so far. This has appealed to the people.Also his idea that lets bring about a change nationally and globally has impressed the voters.Because after the disastrous wars the popularity of USA has dwindeled.He has also gained a lead over Hillary but not still very significant.Some people are sceptic because they think he is still inexperienced for this job.Also he will be the youngest president.He has although promised that we he will be ready for a dialouge with Iran.It looks as people like him because they are just fed with the daily war and that sort of thing.Also his clean image has made an impact.

Third person and the currently the sure winner from Republican side is John Mc Cain.He has hit out at his critics by just coming from the to the top.He was almost written off until he made a remarkable comeback.Romney is now supporting McCain.His most dynamic or we can say the plus point is that he is Vietnam war veteran.Also he has won the war medal.He was kept in captivity during the war but never revealed the secrets to his enemy.His teeths were broken and arm was fractured.But he never broke.Also there is no one from the Republican who has gained such a poularity.But he is the one who has supported the recent SURGE in Iraq.

Well its now upto the voters of America whom they elect.It is very interesting to see that the policies all of them are not much different if seen in depth.

Currently Obhama seems to be the favourite but you never know when the winds change their direction.
