Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos dust in the past. This kind of lung cancer grows in the mesothelium. The sickness is described as localized if the cancer is found only on the membrane surface where it originated and to check it you need a special x-ray technique which can be done in hospitals.
So how does it all raise? First malignant cells develop in the mesothelium ( which is a protective lining that covers most of internal organs in the body). Its most common spot is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity). Though it can also occur in the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart or peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity).
Most people who have mesothelioma been working in jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles or have been exposed to breath with lots of asbestos dust and fibre. It could be done even in such ways like washing clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos. Also worth noticing is that there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.
Mesothelioma prognosis
Mesothelioma is projected to be a short-lived disease.
Recent reports show that an around 2,5k-3k new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the United States every year. Still though mesothlioma is relatively uncommon and not popular. Projections show that its incidence is expected to rise over the next decade and then probably almost totally end.
The first diagnosis of this lung cancer form occurs on average 50-70 years of age. It affects men more often than women. It is like that mainly due to increased occupational exposure.
