Mesothelioma Survivors & Fighters Stories

Mesothelioma Survivors & Fighters Stories
Mesothelioma is a fatal cancer that attacks the lungs, the abdomen, or both. It is a rare cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness is difficult for anyone but some manage to keep positive despite the challenges they face.

Survivors of mesothelioma are highlighted first. The fighters of mesothelioma, doctors and lawyers that ensure the health and quality of life of mesothelioma patients, are listed second. Lastly, survivors of cancer other than mesothelioma or asbestos related cancers.

Mesothelioma Information

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos dust in the past. This kind of lung cancer grows in the mesothelium. The sickness is described as localized if the cancer is found only on the membrane surface where it originated and to check it you need a special x-ray technique which can be done in hospitals.

So how does it all raise? First malignant cells develop in the mesothelium ( which is a protective lining that covers most of internal organs in the body). Its most common spot is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity). Though it can also occur in the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart or peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity).

Most people who have mesothelioma been working in jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles or have been exposed to breath with lots of asbestos dust and fibre. It could be done even in such ways like washing clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos. Also worth noticing is that there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.

Mesothelioma prognosis
Mesothelioma is projected to be a short-lived disease.
Recent reports show that an around 2,5k-3k new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the United States every year. Still though mesothlioma is relatively uncommon and not popular. Projections show that its incidence is expected to rise over the next decade and then probably almost totally end.
The first diagnosis of this lung cancer form occurs on average 50-70 years of age. It affects men more often than women. It is like that mainly due to increased occupational exposure.

MESOTHELIOMA SURVIVOR PAGE - THERE IS HOPE

Dear Fellow Cancer Patient:
Dear Fellow Cancer Patient:

No one likes to read a lengthy letter, but maybe this will help you have a better chance of conquering your cancer and improving the quality of your life. I'm Dick Bloch. In March, 1978 I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and given 3 months to live by an outstanding doctor. I am now healthy, cancer free, and devoting myself along with my wife, Annette, to helping the next person with cancer have the best chance of beating it. I'm not saying you can have the same success I did, but if you try, you have a chance.

The biggest and the hardest single thing that you will be required to do in the entire battle is to make up your mind to really fight it. You must, on your own, make the commitment that you will do everything in your power to fight your disease. No exceptions. Nothing halfway. Nothing for the sake of ease or convenience. Everything! Nothing short of it. When you have done this, you have accomplished the most difficult thing you will have to accomplish throughout your entire treatment. And I don't care how serious or how minor you are led to believe your cancer is.

If it is minor, great. Your commitment should not be difficult to abide by. If you are told you are going to die in 3 months or 3 years or whatever, then it makes that commitment that much more vital. There are a lot of "terminal" people alive, healthy and cancer free. There is no type of cancer from which some people have not been cured. There is no type of cancer for which there is no treatment.

To give up requires no commitment. You can stay in the comfort of your own lifestyle. Fighting means a complete change of lifestyle, absolutely leaving your comfort zone. There will be doctors doing things you might not like. There will be lots of work for you to do. There might even be some pain and suffering and certainly, lots of new and unexpected experiences. You must decide that the end is worth the means because you are the only one who can do it. No one else can do it for you. There is no half way. It's all the way. But when it is all said and done, no matter what the results, I've never met anyone who felt it was not the best way. Go for it with no second thoughts or regrets.

Remember, once you have made the commitment, everything else is relatively easy. There will be pleasant experiences. There will be unpleasant experiences. But I can promise you it is not as difficult as making the decision to make the commitment.

The next step you must take is acquiring knowledge. You, personally, must find out all you can about your disease. When you try, you will be amazed how simple and interesting it is, and I assume you have no medical background. First and foremost, talk to your personal doctor who diagnosed you. Be certain to tape record or write down all his answers. You are not a professional and you will be confused and forget. After a while, you will be amazed at what you understand. And remember, this is your life. It isn't your doctor's, it isn't anyone else's. If you want help, you had better help yourself first. Later you can count on others to help you.

Find out what kind of cancer you are supposed to have. This would include type, stage, grade, location, size, spread, receptors, differentiation, virulence, type of treatments it is receptive to, type of treatments your doctor believes it is not receptive to, and anything else your doctor can tell you. Telephone 1-800-4-CANCER. This is the U.S. Government's Cancer Information Service. Everything is free. Ask for a PDQ state-of-the-art cancer treatment printout for your type and stage of cancer. This will show you the recognized standard therapy for your specific disease. Next ask for a PDQ printout of clinical trials for your specific type and stage of cancer from the entire U.S. This will tell you briefly about every experimental therapy currently available for your disease. Get accustomed to calling 1-800-4-CANCER for most things you want to know and be very specific in what you request. The wonderful people there are trying to help you but they can't guess what you're thinking.

Get google ads free... Hype or real. Internet marketing tips.

new breakthrough secret is all you now need in order to get your Google AdWords pay-per-clicks FREE!

new breakthrough secret is all you now need in order to get your Google AdWords pay-per-clicks FREE!

A gentleman from New York discovered what he calls an "oversight" on the part of 99.9% of all marketers that allows him to get otherwise paid-for advertising at Google as well as all other search engines that allow sponsored ads.

And no, nothing about his "secret" is illegal - nor does it require that you know someone on the "inside" at Google, Yahoo, MSN, Overture and others.

Instead, the New Yorker boasts proudly "...this is something that I caught onto just before 2000 when there was so much search engine craze running around, and started doing small just to test things at first ... but which I later expanded on after getting the hang of it."

This same fellow went on to start and operate sixteen separate online companies selling everything from pet food, DVDs, children's toys & games, books, software, and sold not only his own manufactured products but became an affiliate for other web businesses - all the while applying his mastermind secret.

Over the course of nearly eight years the New Englander confesses "I've actually gotten over $87 million in advertising that using my secret I never had to pay for ... and the largest share of which was more recently in Google pay-per-clicks as well as other forms of pad advertising at search engines ... all of which I got for free ..."

So powerful is his secret that he's able to monopolize any niche online, and can always secure the top premium spots just above the usual organic results featured at most search engines.

He still has to set up an account with the search engines - but after applying his secret he is removed from having to pay for all the costs otherwise involved.
Again, nothing about his secret is either illegal or robs from the search engines.
One spokesperson from one of the most popular search engines said chuckling after being made privy to this amazing secret "Wow! Ha! This is really unique ... and in my expert opinion it would only serve to enhance and bring more business to us at [name of search engine withheld for legal & confidentiality reasons] and not cause us to lose business in the slightest. Amazing!"

The northerner revealed that in this nearly eight years' period of time since applying his secret he's done well over $300 million in sales revenue with a most diverse line of products, and most recently in the last two years netted nearly $166 million after really "buckling down and pressing my secret to its fullest potential."

Now to everyone else's fortune, the city slicker is releasing his secret for getting an unlimited amount of pay-per-click ads to the general public. But he's not promising any of us for how long.

A bit of an eccentric, the gentleman says "We'll see just how long I can make it available before it saturates things."

One famous public web guru pointed out that although this man may gain economically more so as a result of the publication of his secret "he's already so amazingly rich that whether he continues or discontinues its sale will neither make nor break the man, but not grabbing it for yourself while it's still available could prove disastrous for you as you may only have one chance, and a very limited one at that, to get this."

Life Insurance Corporation of India

The story of insurance is probably as old as the story of mankind
The story of insurance is probably as old as the story of mankind. The same instinct that prompts modern businessmen today to secure themselves against loss and disaster existed in primitive men also. They too sought to avert the evil consequences of fire and flood and loss of life and were willing to make some sort of sacrifice in order to achieve security. Though the concept of insurance is largely a development of the recent past, particularly after the industrial era – past few centuries – yet its beginnings date back almost 6000 years.

Life Insurance in its modern form came to India from England in the year 1818. Oriental Life Insurance Company started by Europeans in Calcutta was the first life insurance company on Indian Soil. All the insurance companies established during that period were brought up with the purpose of looking after the needs of European community and Indian natives were not being insured by these companies. However, later with the efforts of eminent people like Babu Muttylal Seal, the foreign life insurance companies started insuring Indian lives. But Indian lives were being treated as sub-standard lives and heavy extra premiums were being charged on them. Bombay Mutual Life Assurance Society heralded the birth of first Indian life insurance company in the year 1870, and covered Indian lives at normal rates. Starting as Indian enterprise with highly patriotic motives, insurance companies came into existence to carry the message of insurance and social security through insurance to various sectors of society. Bharat Insurance Company (1896) was also one of such companies inspired by nationalism. The Swadeshi movement of 1905-1907 gave rise to more insurance companies. The United India in Madras, National Indian and National Insurance in Calcutta and the Co-operative Assurance at Lahore were established in 1906. In 1907, Hindustan Co-operative Insurance Company took its birth in one of the rooms of the Jorasanko, house of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore, in Calcutta. The Indian Mercantile, General Assurance and Swadeshi Life (later Bombay Life) were some of the companies established during the same period. Prior to 1912 India had no legislation to regulate insurance business. In the year 1912, the Life Insurance Companies Act, and the Provident Fund Act were passed. The Life Insurance Companies Act, 1912 made it necessary that the premium rate tables and periodical valuations of companies should be certified by an actuary. But the Act discriminated between foreign and Indian companies on many accounts, putting the Indian companies at a disadvantage.

The first two decades of the twentieth century saw lot of growth in insurance business. From 44 companies with total business-in-force as Rs.22.44 crore, it rose to 176 companies with total business-in-force as Rs.298 crore in 1938. During the mushrooming of insurance companies many financially unsound concerns were also floated which failed miserably. The Insurance Act 1938 was the first legislation governing not only life insurance but also non-life insurance to provide strict state control over insurance business. The demand for nationalization of life insurance industry was made repeatedly in the past but it gathered momentum in 1944 when a bill to amend the Life Insurance Act 1938 was introduced in the Legislative Assembly. However, it was much later on the 19th of January, 1956, that life insurance in India was nationalized. About 154 Indian insurance companies, 16 non-Indian companies and 75 provident were operating in India at the time of nationalization. Nationalization was accomplished in two stages; initially the management of the companies was taken over by means of an Ordinance, and later, the ownership too by means of a comprehensive bill. The Parliament of India passed the Life Insurance Corporation Act on the 19th of June 1956, and the Life Insurance Corporation of India was created on 1st September, 1956, with the objective of spreading life insurance much more widely and in particular to the rural areas with a view to reach all insurable persons in the country, providing them adequate financial cover at a reasonable cost.

LIC had 5 zonal offices, 33 divisional offices and 212 branch offices, apart from its corporate office in the year 1956. Since life insurance contracts are long term contracts and during the currency of the policy it requires a variety of services need was felt in the later years to expand the operations and place a branch office at each district headquarter. re-organization of LIC took place and large numbers of new branch offices were opened. As a result of re-organisation servicing functions were transferred to the branches, and branches were made accounting units. It worked wonders with the performance of the corporation. It may be seen that from about 200.00 crores of New Business in 1957 the corporation crossed 1000.00 crores only in the year 1969-70, and it took another 10 years for LIC to cross 2000.00 crore mark of new business. But with re-organisation happening in the early eighties, by 1985-86 LIC had already crossed 7000.00 crore Sum Assured on new policies.

Today LIC functions with 2048 fully computerized branch offices, 100 divisional offices, 7 zonal offices and the Corporate office. LIC’s Wide Area Network covers 100 divisional offices and connects all the branches through a Metro Area Network. LIC has tied up with some Banks and Service providers to offer on-line premium collection facility in selected cities. LIC’s ECS and ATM premium payment facility is an addition to customer convenience. Apart from on-line Kiosks and IVRS, Info Centres have been commissioned at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Pune and many other cities. With a vision of providing easy access to its policyholders, LIC has launched its SATELLITE SAMPARK offices. The satellite offices are smaller, leaner and closer to the customer. The digitalized records of the satellite offices will facilitate anywhere servicing and many other conveniences in the future.

LIC continues to be the dominant life insurer even in the liberalized scenario of Indian insurance and is moving fast on a new growth trajectory surpassing its own past records. LIC has issued over one crore policies during the current year. It has crossed the milestone of issuing 1,01,32,955 new policies by 15th Oct, 2005, posting a healthy growth rate of 16.67% over the corresponding period of the previous year.

From then to now, LIC has crossed many milestones and has set unprecedented performance records in various aspects of life insurance business. The same motives which inspired our forefathers to bring insurance into existence in this country inspire us at LIC to take this message of protection to light the lamps of security in as many homes as possible and to help the people in providing security to their families.

Insurance: Overview

Did you know that some of the hottest jobs in finance aren't on Wall Street at all? These are jobs in insurance.
Did you know that some of the hottest jobs in finance aren't on Wall Street at all? These are jobs in insurance. Insurance is a trillion dollar business that employs more than 2.5 million people in the United States alone. As the population ages and wealth grows, the demand for insurance professionals will increase dramatically. This is great news for you if your thinking of going in to insurance. Jobs in insurance involve helping individuals and business manage risk to protect themselves from catastrophic losses and to anticipate potential risk problems. Work in this area is not only personally rewarding, but can be financially rewarding as well. You will help clients understand their insurance needs, explain their options to them and hopefully help them purchase appropriate insurance policies. You could work in a variety of areas in insurance including as an underwriter, a sales representative, an asset manager, a customer service rep or an actuary. A theme that is constantly emphasized by insurance professionals is that the industry is ultimately about helping people when they need it the most. The stereotype of a slick, sleazy, fast-talking insurance salesman is largely a figment of the past.

Top 3 Windows Vista Hacks

If you are like me, then Windows Vista out of the box is simply not enough. Not even by far. I am always talking about personalizing the operating system. Well, for me customizationIf you are like me, then Windows Vista out of the box is simply not enough. Not even by far. I am always talking about personalizing the operating system. Well, for me customization does not stop at the visual means going under the "hood" of the operating system. This process involves various changes across the operating system, so before you proceed it is advisable to perform a routine maintenance task such as a backup and a restore point for the Registry via System Restore.

With this small but vital detail out of the way, you are all ready to go. I should probably mention before it gets thrown in my face that these hacks are rather simplistic, but extremely useful nonetheless.
1. Unlock the Secret Default Administrator Account

You have to understand the fact that Windows Vista ships with a few default accounts. Microsoft refers to them as built-in accounts. Without a doubt, you have already seen one of them on your own copy of Vista. It is the Guest account. The Guest account is present by default in the User Accounts section of the Control Panel and you only need to activate it.

The same is the case with the default administrator account. If the Guest account is the "Built-in account for guest access to the computer/domain" the Administrator is the "Built-in account for administering the computer/domain." Now the administrator account is not only disabled by default such as the Guest account, but it is also hidden.

In order to enable it and bring it to the surface enter "cmd" in the Search Box integrated in the Start Menu and right-click the Command Prompt icon that will be displayed at the top. Make sure that you launch the process with elevated privileges via the Run as Administrator command. In the Command Prompt windows enter "net user administrator /active:yes" in order to enable the Administrator account. If at any time you change your mind and want to revert to the original settings, then type "net user administrator /active:no" and hit enter. The built-in Administrator account will show up just like all the other accounts when you will log in, but it will have absolute power over Windows Vista and will not be limited by the User Account control.

2. Kill or Configure Windows Aero

Now those of you that have used the high end editions of Windows Vista, already know that the operating system is a tad slower than Windows XP. Responsible for the slow speeds is in par Windows Aero. Even on configurations that satisfy the systems requirements of Aero, there is a trade-off between the special effects and the actual functionality. In this case, there is also a direct impact on the workflow.

Windows Aero can be turned off by navigating to Personalize via the right-click menu on the desktop and the View Color and Appearance > Open classic appearance properties for more color options. In the menu that pops up, users can select Windows Vista Basic graphical user interface.

Additionally, you can right-click Computer and select Properties and then Advanced System Settings in the left menu followed by Performance Settings. You can set up your Windows Vista system for best appearance versus best performance or even customize the effects you want enabled or disabled.

3. Advanced System Configuration

This is not a hack. In fact, this is one of the most useful tools around Windows Vista together with the advanced panel for User Accounts. Simply press the Windows key and then the "R" key to bring up the Run dialog box. Type "msconfig" and hit enter. Via the System Configuration window you will have complete control over the Vista startup, the Boot process, the active services, the startup list and the tools across the operating system. You can even disable and enable the UAC from here.

Unlock the supersecret Administrator account

Deep inside the bowels of Windows Vista, there's a secret Administrator account, and it's different from the normal administrator account you most likely have set up on your PC. This Administrator account is not part of the Administrator group. (Confused yet? You should be.) It's a kind of superadministrator, akin to the root account in Unix, and by default it's turned off and hidden. (In describing this hack, we'll always use the capital "A" for the secret Administrator account, and a lowercase "a" for a normal administrator account.)

In versions of Windows before Windows Vista, the Administrator account wasn't hidden, and many people used it as their main or only account. This Administrator account had full rights over the computer.

In Windows Vista, Microsoft changed that. In Vista, the Administrator account is not subject to UAC, but normal administrator accounts are. So the Administrator can make any changes to the system and will see no UAC prompts.

Turning on the Administrator account is straightforward. First, open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd into the Search box on the Start menu, right-clicking the command prompt icon that appears at the top of the Start menu, then selecting Run as administrator -- or just use the shortcut you created in the previous hack.

Then enter this command and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:yes

From now on, the Administrator account will appear as an option on the Welcome screen, along with any user accounts you may have set up. Use it like any other account. Be aware that it won't have a password yet, so it's a good idea to set a password for it.

If you want to disable the account and hide it, enter this command at an elevated command prompt and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:no

Top 10 Vista Hacks

Itching to make Windows Vista behave the way you want it to, not the way Microsoft does? Take these fun and useful hacks for a whirl.

. Hack User Account Control

Windows Vista's User Account Control (UAC) is the new operating system's most universally reviled feature. Sure, it helps protect you, but it also annoys you to no end.

If UAC drives you around the bend, you can turn it off. There are several ways to do it. One way is to choose Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts, then click Turn User Account Control on or off.

Alternately, you can run the System Configuration Utility (a.k.a. msconfig) by typing msconfig at the command line or search box. When the tool runs, click the Tools tab and scroll down until you see Disable UAC. Highlight it and click the Launch button, then reboot. To turn it back on again, follow the same steps and choose Enable UAC.

If you're a fan of the Registry, you can also disable UAC using the Registry Editor. Launch the Registry Editor by typing regedit at the Start Search box or a command prompt and pressing Enter. Go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLUA

and give it a value of 0. You will need to reboot in order for the change to take effect.

UAC is also the culprit for another nagging Windows Vista annoyance. When you run some commands from the command prompt, you're told that you don't have administrative rights to run them, even if you're currently logged in as an administrator.

That's because UAC requires you to run the command prompt as an administrator -- what's called running an elevated command prompt. Simply being logged in as an administrator isn't good enough; you still have to run an elevated command prompt.

One way to do it is to type cmd into the Search box on the Start menu, right-click the command prompt icon that appears at the top of the Start menu, then select Run as administrator.

But if you don't want to go about doing that each time you run a command prompt, there's a simpler way. You can create a desktop shortcut for an elevated prompt, or pin the elevated prompt to the Start menu.

To create a shortcut on the desktop:

1. Right-click the desktop, and select New > Shortcut.

2. In the text box of the Create Shortcut dialog box that appears, type cmd and then click Next.

3. On the next screen, type a name for the shortcut -- for example, Elevated Command Prompt. Then click Finish.

4. Right-click on the shortcut you just created and select Properties.

5. Select the Shortcut tab and click the Advanced button.

6. Check the box titled Run as administrator. Click OK and then OK again.

Now, when you want to run an elevated command prompt, simply double-click the shortcut.

If you'd like the elevated command prompt to appear on the Start menu, drag it from the Desktop to the Start button and place it where you would like it to be.

Mac OS X Tiger

Mac OS X Tiger
Mac OS X Tiger
I'm never good at writing the first sentence of a release so bare with me. This theme was created to match the new OS made by Apple, Mac OS X 10.4 codenamed Tiger. My Mac OS X Panther theme came out in 2004. I as the monthes passed I wasn't pleased with the end result of the theme, I wasn't happy with it, even though the majority of people I spoke with loved it. Having said that, I had decided to create a new version of the theme from scratch. I rebuilt it all from ground up and I think it is a very large improvement over Mac OS X Panther. I've also included a few additional schemes to add more to the Mac experience, it features the classic Aqua and Graphite scheme, the newly introduced Platinum scheme which is found in the System Preferences and Mail programs in Mac OS X 10.4. In addition to those two, I couldn't leave out the beloved Brushed. There is over 20 substyles and those included two versions of the start menu's, one being the standard start menu, and the other being my own compact apple menu (AM). The apple menu is a simple stripped down start menu that is made to look like the apple menu in Mac OS X. There are also left and right handed titlebar buttons for those that want their PC to look like a Mac, but at the same time keep their right handed Windows buttons. Now, as I made you all read through that, here is what you have been waiting for. Enjoy!

Bangalore’s gastronomic circuit

Tired of dining out at the same old places? Here are two new restaurants on MG Road that you could check out.

Tired of dining out at the same old places? Here are two new restaurants on MG Road that you could check out.

Emgees
A new entrant to Bangalore’s gastronomic circuit, Emgees is quickly garnering popularity. Located at the The Shelton Grand, this restaurant is just the place for a leisurely lunch or a quick bite.

Though Emgees serves reasonably good multicuisine fare, it is the Indian cuisine that finds maximum takers. The light, healthy vegetarian spread, complemented with fresh fruit juices, makes for that perfect afternoon meal.

The ambience at Emgees can be best described as “business-like” and the service courteous and efficient. Check out this place if you happen to be around or want to sample a different version of Indian cuisine, one that rests easy on the wallet and, of course, on your palate.

Soul Deli Café
Soul Deli Café is yet another entrant in the long list of cafés . Located in a basement that earlier used to house The Underground, this place offers an eclectic range of soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts and beverages. The sandwiches here are meals in themselves. The soups are equally good. There’s even a deli counter that stocks an assortment of breads , cheeses, and desserts .

Soul Deli offers you the option of dining indoors as well outdoors. Done up in wooden furniture and trendy-looking lamps , the ambience inside has a cosy feel to it. And if you choose to dine out, you have the company of a waterfall that sits at the entrance and lends a wonderful calming effect to your frayed nerves, that have miraculously survived the experience of dodging city traffic and almost nose-diving to nab that parking spot!

However, while the food and décor do remarkably well for themselves, it’s the service that is a bit of a let down. And here’s another fair warning: for a café, this place is certainly not easy on the wallet.

So take a pick of and enjoy whatever strikes your fancy.

1. When you first open it, it will take some time before asking you to allow the file. This is normal, file extraction is going on in the background. And same after you hit allow, you may encounter some delay before the installer comes up which is normal.
2. When the first batch file comes up during installation, close all other programs as it says and press any key to continue.
3. After the second batch file is run, you will notice that it does not close automatically after the installer restarts. Close it when it tells you to.
4. Reboot: This is a must! And is very important. On a side note, NEVER try to run an uninstallation right after an installation (without rebooting) and vice versa as it will cause your system files to be missing.
5. The installer will create a directory called BackupFiles in the system32 folder. Do NOT touch this directory. You are automatically denied all access to it for a reason, and that is you do not want your backup files to get touched. If you do not heed the warning and touch stuff in that directory, uninstallation will not go well.
6. If windows update ever replaces something and causes your icons to get changed back, you can just run the iVista installer again and it will re-update everything...an uninstallation would not be needed.

We have tested this before releasing it and everything should go smoothly if you follow the directions. However, by downloading this you agree that if in the unlikely event that anything does happen to go wrong neither Windows Edge nor its staff members can be held responsible or liable.

But please, enjoy!
